The Very Beginning of The Best Part Of The Year

It is now November, which for many signals the start of the holiday season. Stores become christmas/Winter/Holiday themed and joy is in the air. To me it seems like this part of the year comes faster each new year than it did previously. Perhaps this is because stores give that illusion. Instead of decorating for the Holidays after Thanksgiving, they start the week of Halloween. Some people are just finishing their costumes while stores simultaneously begin the early stages of Holiday season mania.

While I love November, December and all the merriment that comes along with those months, beginning it all in the end of October is slightly ridiculous. Has it become too difficult to wait three more weeks? While I do love the Holiday season, there needs to be that three week gap between Halloween and the Holidays. I am a huge fan of the Holidays and usually, for me, the unofficial start of the Holidays fall on my Birthday. Two weeks before Thanksgiving.

Late fall has always been my favorite part of fall because it is the true start of my favorite time of year: the Holiday season. I wait patiently every year for November 12 to roll around because I know that soon after my birthday comes Thanksgiving and then Christmas and New Years Eve are not too far behind. November and December always pass by in a whirlwind of activity since there is so much going on during these months.

I was walking through the mall a few days before Halloween and it has alreay begun to transform before my eyes. Major department stores have Holiday/Winter decorations up and Macy’s had a section of items that would be perfect for stocking stuffers. I walked through it with my Mom and she shared with me how strange it is that stores prepeare so early for Christmas these days. She talks about her days in retail, which included the first five years of my life. Back then, employees would come in super early the day after Thanksgiving to decorate for Christmas. Obviously times have changed.

I vaguely remember the days my Mom talks about, though I do agree with how it worked back then. As hard as I try, I can’t find the reasoning behind this new system. However, since there is nothing I can do about it, I have decided to accept it. No matter how crazy I think it is. I have decided to let the first week of November signal the unofficial start of the Holiday season instead of my birthday. I ring in November with the Holidays in mind, ready for my birthday, Thanksgiving and all that follows. I guess it is now officially the very beginning of the best part of the year. Happy November everybody!

An Investment Banker was at the pier of a small coastal Indian village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large yellow fin tuna.
The Investment Banker complimented the Fisherman on the quality of his fish and asked, “How long does it take to catch them?” The Fisherman replied: “Only a little while.”
